Βιάζεστε να συνδεθείτε στο Internet μετά από μια flight σε άλλη χώρα; Σύμφωνα με έρευνα της Kaspersky Lab, a large proportion of travelers put their personal data at risk as it connects to unsafe networks Wi-Fi, due to its need to connect to the Internet as soon as it reaches one foreign country.;
Ωστόσο, καθώς οι πιο βασικές ταξιδιωτικές πληροφορίες (από χάρτες και επιβεβαιώσεις ξενοδοχείων μέχρι λεπτομέρειες για το check-in και τις κάρτες επιβίβασης) αποθηκεύονται στο Διαnetwork, international travelers often have no choice but to connect upon arrival.
Many are willing to use a Wi-Fi connection rather than risk paying approxtreatments, despite the fact that doing so will expose them to danger.
At their exit from the airport, almost half of the Greeks (48%) are already connected to the Internet, with most (62%) connected to inform their family and loved ones that they have arrived safely. Also, almost five out of ten (47%) claim that they are primarily linked to "download" travel information.
Yet, job-related issues (41%) are also a powerful factor for instantly searching for Internet access, as is the desire to connect to social media (46%). Last but not least, 35% of Greeks say it is simply instinctive to connect to the Internet as soon as possible.
Today, connection and access to the Internet is so common that almost no one thinks about where and how to connect or who can "listen" even when abroad. Almost eight out of 10 Greeks (75%) are linked to unsafe, free-to-air Wi-Fi connections at airports, hotels, cafes or restaurants.
However, when someone is away from home and from trusted networks, lack of attention to network security is a game in the hands of digital criminals. Based on the survey, 13% of Greek travelers suffered a digital crime when they were away from home, and only 2% said they had experienced some criminal activity in real life.
This is no surprise if one thinks that everyone's digital habits are hardly changing at all, not even during a trip abroad, even though there is a strong chance that there is a greater risk exposure to unsafe public networks. 37% of Greek respondents said they are using online banking services and making online purchases via Wi-Fi networks while abroad.
In relation to the above findings, Eugene Kaspersky, its President and CEO Kaspersky Lab, commented: "I travel a lot. My professional program always includes meetings, conferences and negotiations around the world. I travel by plane over 100 times a year - and that's the rule for me. And of course, I use various public Wi-Fi networks to have permanent access to the Internet. But the first thing I do as soon as I get access to the Internet is to connect to a VPN (in my case, Kaspersky Lab VPN) and this is the best precaution I would recommend to anyone. It is also good for users to keep their software up to date, including a security solution, and not to trust anyone on the Internet. "
