uTorrent attention beats red on Virustotal

If you try to scan the latest uTorrent installation file to services like Virustotal you will notice that the popular application "hits" red.

uTorrent Classic, uTorrent Web, and BitTorrent are detected by many antivirus applications as malware. The main version, uTorrent Classic, is detected as malicious out of ten applications: Microsoft Defender, Sophos, Eset Nod32, GData and Dr.Web.

What is detected? Most applications report that the torrent contains “PUAs or Potentially Unwanted Applications”.

Windows Defender does not detect or exclude any unwanted programs by default. You must first select the option to start checking the executable files. Microsoft security solution prevented downloading utorrent.exe.

Those who use uTorrent should think of switching to a torrent client. Applications qBittorrent or Transmission, are open source and come without ads and unwanted programs, which are added to the during installation.
