Volkswagen has revealed a data leakage affecting more than 3,3 millions customers.
On Friday, the automaker said data used for sales and marketing purposes between 2014 and 2019 was left uncovered and leaked to thenetwork "At some point" between August 2019 and May 2021.
Audi and Volkswagen have been notified that "an unauthorized third party" has access to this information around 10 March.
Volkswagen reports that names, surnames, personal addresses, mailing addresses, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers have been leaked, along with information on "vehicles purchased or leased" (vehicle, make, model, year and color).
Volkswagen immediately informed the competent authorities of the violation.
The company states that its customers should be very careful about upcoming phishing messages that will use leaked data.
Volkswagen is reportedly investigating the incident with outside security experts, and is awaiting the findings.
“Audi and Volkswagen are working with experts in issues cybersecurity to assess and respond to this situation. At the same time, they have taken measures to deal with it theme", the companies report.
At the moment it has create a help portal for those who believe they have been affected by the leak.
