What.cd Police raid on the site's servers

The private music torrent tracker What.cd went offline a few hours ago, as a police raid reported to the servers using the site in France.

A published on the tracker states that the is closing, although there is no confirmation that a police raid has taken place.

"Due to some recent events, What.cd is shutting down. We will not be back soon. All data of our site and users have been destroyed. "States the announcement.what-cd

The message suggests that closing the site could be permanent, but it also gives assurances that all data was destroyed before the police accessed the servers.

Citing French media, TorrentFreak reports that the French authorities have raided a total of OVH's 12 servers. No arrests have taken place, and it is not yet clear whether the data is still present on the servers or deleted as reported by the administrators in the announcement.what.cd

The Gerdarmerie's cybercrime prosecution service (C3N) confirmed the police operations, but did not name What.cd as a target. Her French team industry group SACEM (Société des auteurs, compositeurs et éditeurs de musique) reportedly worked closely with authorities to raid the site.

Right now, even the IRC channel used by members of the site is offline. Let's say that What.cd was one of the largest private trackers. Web site administrators announced the site had a million unique music releases.

The community has grown at a very rapid rate since 2007, mainly due to the disruption of the great oink.
