Yesterday 29 July, Windows 10 was released, not just for Windows Insiders as reported by Microsoft, but for all those who wanted to download them.
All right, then. Microsoft has released the new one for everyone, and no one has complained. But can the millions of simultaneous downloads of 3.5GB handle the Internet?
So far, as reported by Akamai, Internet traffic was 35% higher than normal, and the answer seems to be yes.
Windows 10 downloads seem to have put a lot of pressure on the Internet, but they did not break it.
Some had feared that the Internet, or at least the servers of Microsoft, they may not be able to handle the pressure. It's happened again, with the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the release of Apple's iOS 8, and the first episode of Game of Thrones.
This is not the case with Windows 10. There is currently no publication mentioning a significant traffic jam on the Internet.
Of course, if you have, say, a DSL 4Mbps connection, it will take you less than two hours to download it even today.
Some thought that with downloads of Windows 10 the traffic could break the Internet by reaching speeds that would be more than 40 terabits per second (TBPS).
Terry Myerson, Microsoft Executive Vice President at Windows Group, said: “Starting July 29, Windows 10 will be available to our Windows Insiders. From there, they will begin to disperse in waves. ”
