Windows 10 downloads broke but did not break the Internet

Yesterday 29 July, Windows 10 was released, not just for Windows Insiders as reported by Microsoft, but for all those who wanted to download them.

All right, then. Microsoft has released the new one for everyone, and no one has complained. But can the millions of simultaneous downloads of 3.5GB handle the Internet?

So far, as reported by Akamai, Internet traffic was 35% higher than normal, and the answer seems to be yes.akama internet Windows 10

Windows 10 downloads seem to have put a lot of pressure on the Internet, but they did not break it.

Some had feared that the Internet, or at least the of Microsoft, they may not be able to handle the pressure. It's happened again, with the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the release of Apple's iOS 8, and the first episode of Game of .

This is not the case with Windows 10. There is currently no publication mentioning a significant traffic jam on the Internet.
Of course, if you have, say, a DSL 4Mbps connection, it will take you less than two hours to download it even today.

Some thought that with downloads of Windows 10 the traffic could break the Internet by reaching speeds that would be more than 40 terabits per second (TBPS).

Terry Myerson, Microsoft Executive Vice President at Windows Group, said: “Starting July 29, Windows 10 will be available to our Windows Insiders. From there, they will begin to disperse in waves. ”

The key word is "waves". Microsoft's plan as we have seen was not to allow the with one click, but those interested had to close the new operating system with "pre-order"

So to get in the queue, you would have to click on the “Get Windows 10” icon and then click on “Close the free you now.”

So we saw differences between what Microsoft was planning to do with what it did. While Microsoft will not confirm this, Dan Rayburn, executive vice president of streaming media, said:

"Microsoft has maintained up to 40Tb / s of capacity on all third-party [Content Delivery Networks] CDNs."
Sources on various CDNs said that Microsoft had made "significant bandwidth investments" for July 29 and a few days later.

Έτσι οι χρήστες δεν αναφέρουν πουθενά σημαντικές καθυστερήσεις στη λήψη. Οι υπηρεσίες παρακολούθησης της κυκλοφορίας στο Διαδίκτυο, όπως το Internet Traffic Report και το Internet Report, they report no problems.

Of course, it was a tiring day for the Internet, which seemed to bend for a while but did not risk breaking.
