Microsoft has Windows 10 as a free upgrade for suitable devices with Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1. The upgrade will be available from July 29 of 2015. Those who are interested can register today for their free upgrades.

You have room until July 29 2016 and only to take advantage of this offer. Upgrading, Windows 10 will be free of charge on your device.

Is the upgrade really free?

Yes, it's free. This is a full version of Windows, not a trial or an introductory version. It is available for a limited time. You have one year available to you once Windows 10 is available to take advantage of this offer.

How do I get my free upgrade?

You can do one of the following1:

a) Buy a new Windows 8.1 device and upgrade it for free in Windows 10 or

b) Register for a free upgrade for your computer with Windows 7 or Windows 8.1

Not all Windows 10 features on all devices. This is something you should be informed by your manufacturer before purchasing. Below is more information about the upgrade requirements.

What happens when I do ;

When you sign up, you can confirm that your device is compatible with Window 10. After registration and when your upgrade is ready, the files you need to upgrade will be downloaded from your computer so that the final installation is completed more quickly. Then, when your upgrade is ready after 29 July 2015, you will receive a notification that allows you to start upgrading.

Are there any eligibility requirements?

The only requirements are: a) to be compatible with your device; and b) to have genuine Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows 8.1 (Update).

Windows 10 is designed to work on computers running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. This means that your device is probably compatible and will be able to accept Window 10.1

If I buy a new computer today, can it be upgraded to Window 10?

Yes, Windows 10 can run on new suitable computers. Windows 10 is designed to be compatible with laptops and desktops or Windows 8.1 tablets sold today. Device manufacturers are the ones who decide on the models of their devices, and some features of Windows 10 may not be available on specific devices, so please contact your store or manufacturer for more information.

How long does it take to install the upgrade?

Calculate about an hour for installation. Newer devices may only need 20 minutes, while older devices may take more than an hour.

Before you start, you will need to download the installation files. If you've signed up, we'll take care of them and let you know when you're ready to get started.

How do I sign up for my existing device?

Just open the application Get Windows 10 (described below) and click on the record.

Click the small Windows icon located at the bottom right of the taskbar.
When the message appears, click on 'Reserve for your free upgrade'.

There is no obligation and you can cancel your registration at any time. After signing up, we will take care of transferring Windows 10 to your device when available. Then we will notify you when your device is ready to install the upgrade.

What is Get Windows 10?

Get Windows 10 is an application designed to facilitate the upgrade process. It checks if your device is compatible and makes registration for your free upgrade. It also has information to help you learn about the features of Window 10.

For devices running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update with Windows Update enabled, the app automatically appears as a Windows icon in the notification area, at the bottom right of ς σου.

How will I be confirmed that I have subscribed to my upgrading?

Simply click the Record button in the Get Windows 10 application and then enter your e-mail address in the confirmation screen.

If I change my mind, can I cancel my registration?

Yes. The easiest way to get the free upgrade is to sign up, but you can upgrade even if you do not sign up.

Since Windows 10 is available, we will begin to alert devices that their free upgrade is available. Just open Get Windows 10 to schedule your upgrades. Note: Some notifications will go out as soon as Windows 10 is available. Others may go out in the next few weeks or months.

What if I have more than one Windows device? Can I upgrade to all?

Why do not I get the Get Windows 10 application?

If you do not see Get Windows 10 on your computer, this may be because:

Your device is not up to date with at least Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update
Windows Update is disabled or not set to automatically receive updates
You have blocked or removed Windows Update.
Your device does not have genuine Windows

The computers that we think can not use Windows 10 will not see the Get Windows 10 application before 29 July 2015. After 29 July 2015, we will activate the icon in the notification area. This will be done to make sure you can easily check your computer's compatibility if you choose it.

If your own device belongs to a school or business network, consult your computer administrator about upgrading to Windows 10.

Why do I see notifications about Windows 10?

Can I turn off notifications?

Can I reinstall WindUws 10 on my computer after upgrading?

Yes. Once you have upgraded to Window 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to reinstall or even clean installation on the same device. You will not need to buy Window 10 or return to the previous version of Windows and re-upgrade.

Still, you will be able to create your own installation media such as a USB or DVD drive and use this media to upgrade your device or reinstall after upgrading.

When will new devices with Window 10 arrive in stores?
