Windows 10 May 2019 block on systems with USB / SD

Microsoft today released one support document which warns Windows 10 users that the upcoming May 2019 Update may not install on their systems if they use external USB storage devices or SD.

The company reportedly noticed problems with “improper repositioning ” or “inappropriate drive reassignment” and cites it as the main reason for blocking the May 2019 Update.

"Improper disk replacement may occur on computers that have an external USB device or an SD memory card during the May 2019 Update installation," the company said. "For this reason, these computers are currently excluded from receiving the update."

So if te a USB or SD card, you will see the following in case you try to upgrade to Windows 10 May 2019 Update.

Windows 10 May 2019 Update

Fortunately, there is a quick and simple solution to this issue. Microsoft recommends that users remove any external USB or SD media and restart the update installation.

This includes USB drives, external USB hard drives, or SD cards inserted into card readers.
In the long run, Microsoft plans to address the issue of "improper disk relocation" in a future Windows 10 update.

Microsoft will not block the updated May to all Windows 10 users, but only to those using the April 2018 Update (Windows 10, version 1803) or the October 2018 Update (Windows 10, version 1809). Users using older versions of Windows 10 will be able to perform the May update without any problems.

The May 2019 Update will be released next month. Windows 10 users can delay the update if they so wish. For eager users, the May 2019 Update ISO is already available in MSDN.
