In May, Microsoft confirmed that it stopped supporting Windows Media Center without giving more information, and without directly replacing the application in Windows 10. As can be seen, the use of Media Center has been greatly reduced, and Microsoft has stated that the few who still use it do so for DVD playback.
Consumers avoid DVDs as there is now streaming and downloads, so Microsoft promised an alternative to DVD playback in Windows 10 later this year.
With the installation of Windows 10, a new application is now available, as reported by Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet.
If you have Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional ή Ultimate ή Windows 8/8.1 με το Media Center ή ένα Pro Pack, το PC σας θα είναι επιλέξιμο για την εγκατάσταση της νέας εφαρμογής δωρεάν. Το νέο Windows DVD Player θα κατέβει αυτόματα στον computer when you upgrade to Windows 10. As Microsoft explains:
E: What should I do to get the free app?
A: Λίγο μετά την αναβάθμιση σε Windows 10, η δωρεάν εφαρμογή των Windows αναπαραγωγής DVD θα εγκατασταθεί αυτόματα μέσω του Windows Update, but you can speed up this process by going to Settings in the Start menu, selecting Update and security, and then clicking Check for updates. You should see a new update, which will install the app for free.
However, if you perform a clean installation of Windows 10, you will not be able to download the application for free. This is because eligibility depends on the existence of an existing Media Center installation. So if you format your disk and install the new operating system from scratch, Media Center will not be found, so you will not receive the update.
If you still want to do a clean install, or if you are not eligible for the free download but still want the application, Microsoft says it will "be available for purchase in the Store."
So far, however, the app has not appeared in the Windows Store.
It should be mentioned that instead of buying the Microsoft DVD player, there are too many free ones that work perfectly.
