Windows 7 Disable notification for upgrade

Microsoft plans to display a full screen alert to users of the Windows 7 operating system from January 15, 2020. H it will say that system support has ended.

The company added the file EOSnotify.exe, (in the path% windir% \ system32 \). This will be used to display the full screen alert on devices running Windows 7 when support expires.

What does expiring support mean (according to Microsoft)?

Once Windows 7 support expires on January 14 January, your computer will continue to run but Microsoft will no longer provide the following:

  • Technical support for any problems
  • Software Updates
  • Security updates or fixes

Although you will be able to continue using your Windows 7 PC without constant software and security updates, your PC will be more vulnerable to viruses and malware . Ο καλύτερος τρόπος να παραμείνετε ασφαλείς είναι με τα Windows 10. Και ο καλύτερος τρόπος να γνωρίσετε την εμπειρία των Windows 10 είναι σε έναν νέο υπολογιστή. Αν και είναι δυνατή η εγκατάσταση των Windows 10 στην παλιότερη you, is not recommended.

The file runs through the EOSNotify and EOSNotify2 scheduled tasks, which administrators can find in the operating system's Microsoft > Winodws > Task Scheduler. The first task displays the notification as soon as the user logs in , while the second daily at 12 p.m.

Microsoft's recommendation is to buy a new PC with Windows 10 and not mention anything about upgrading your existing machine.

As you can see in the image above, the popup contains three different links - options for users:

Learn More
Remind me later
Don't show it again

Users can select "Don't show it again" to block future pop-ups on the system. However, if Microsoft persists below we will see how you can turn off the notification from the Windows Registry.

Use the two Windows-R keys to open RUN. Please type and press Enter to start the Registry Editor.
If UAC appears, confirm
Follow the route:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ EOSNotify

The Dword DiscontinueEOS value is listed under EOSNotify, double click and set the value to 1.
If it does not exist on your system you can create it (right click on EOSNotify, select New> Dword (32-bit Value)).

That's it.
