It is known that Windows 7 will no longer have free security updates after January 2020. But Microsoft offers companies different ways to continue receiving updates after that date.
We learned yesterday that there is another option for Microsoft Windows 7 licensees that is available as a limited time offer.
Microsoft announced last September that it will offer, for a fee, support for Windows 7 business security updates until January 2023.
The company will no longer provide free security updates for Windows 7 after January 14, 2020.
At the time, Microsoft executives reported that the paid Extended Security Updates (ESUs) of Windows 7 will be sold per device, while the price would increase every year.
These ESU packages will be available to all Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise users, and volume-licensing, contracts with Windows Software Assurance and/or Windows 10 Enterprise or Education subscriptions will receive a discount.
Office 365 ProPlus will continue to work on Appliances with Windows 7 security updates until January 2023.
Microsoft also offers customers Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) on these Windows 7 ESUs at no extra charge for three years under WVD licensing fees. WVD is generally expected to be available from September 2019.
These Windows 7 ESUs are not cheap. Για τους χρήστες Windows Enterprise και Microsoft 365, η Microsoft θα παράσχει ESUs σαν "add-on".
For Windows 7 Pro users, the cost is $ 50 per device for the first year. $ 100 for the second and $ 200 for the third.
