WIRE 2014 Conference of the Greek Presidency of the EU, organized by the National Documentation Center and European Committee, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Research and Technology
The International Conference “Week of Innovative Regions in Europe (WIRE V) WIRE 2014” (www.wire2014.eu), the most important European dialogue forum for Regional Strategies, Innovation & Development, takes place in Athens (Aigli Zappeiou) on 12 and 13 June 2014. The Conference WIRE 2014 (Week of Innovative Regions in Europe) is organized by the National Documentation Center (EKT) and the European Commission, in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Research and Technology, in the context of the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU, in the presence of the European Commission Commissioner for issues of Research, Innovation and Science Máire Geoghegan-Quinn.
The congress, που πραγματοποιείται για πέμπτη συνεχή χρονιά, έχει καθιερωθεί ως η δημόσια συζήτηση για νέες πολιτικές και προγράμματα περιφερειακής ανάπτυξης. Για το 2014 συμπίπτει με την έναρξη του ευρωπαϊκού προγράμματος “Ορίζοντας 2020” για την έρευνα και καινοτομία και των νέων Ευρωπαϊκών Διαρθρωτικών και Επενδυτικών Ταμείων, και αναδεικνύει εργαλεία και καλές πρακτικές για την αποτελεσματική υλοποίηση των Intelligent Strategies of the Regions of Europe.
The conference covers the following thematic areas:
a) European Regional Development Fund for 2014-2020: From design to effective implementation of the Smart Specialization Strategy - Regional Policies for Competitive Enterprises - Research & Entrepreneurship in European Territorial Cooperation,
b) Scientific Excellence and Exploitation of Knowledge for Regional Development: Public Open Data for Regional Innovation - Indicators & Tools for the Evaluation of Regional Strategies - Reuse of Knowledge in Intelligent Specialization Strategies and Entrepreneurship.
High-level executives of the European Commission, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and the World Bank, as well as managers of Structural Funds and Operational Programs, regional associations, local authorities, development agencies, technology transfer organizations, stakeholders involved in the mapping of indicators for research, researchers, entrepreneurs, business links, clusters, etc.
The Conference highlights scientific excellence and the re-use of knowledge as a means of unlocking the potential for innovation in the regions and the need for a systematic mapping of research action through indicators for effective governance.
At the same time, it presents good practices for the use of policies / programs aimed at reducing the innovation gap in Europe's regions, aligning national and European strategies, coordinating research and cohesion policies. Proposals will also be published to re-use knowledge, aiming at scientifically documented regional innovation strategies.
