The launch of YotaPhone, the smartphone with the two screens, caused a sensation with its launch at the end of last year. YotaDevices, the maker of the device, apparently does not rest and has already announced the improved YotaPhone second generation.
The new YotaPhone is already at the prototype stage and incorporates significant improvements to flaws identified in the original model. Now, the second E-Ink technology screen is now a full touchscreen, which also involves increased functionality.
With this specific upgrade, the user will now be able to avoid the basic, energy-hungry screen and turn to E-Ink for call management, messages, emails, internet browsing etc. The secondary screen now has a 4,7 inch diagonal and is marked "always-on".
The main screen of the new device will be 5 inch, AMOLED technology and 1080p resolution. Inside the device is hidden the Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2,3GHz, replacing the Snapdragon 600 of the previous model. Also, the device has thinned significantly by reaching 8,9 millimeters.
YotaDevices has also made its SDK (Application Development Kit) available to anyone interested developer to proceed with the creation of applications that will be able to take advantage of the existence of the second, E-Ink, screen.
At the same time, the company is in talks with companies like Google and Amazon to make these applications compatible.
The refreshed YotaPhone is expected to be available on markets Russia, Europe, Middle East and Africa from the fourth quarter of 2014, with the United States and Asian markets to follow later.
The device is expected to cost 499 euros, the original one, while the holders of the original model are expected to provide a generous discount.
