YouTube: Anti-False Views Campaign

The number of views of uploaders is starting to be censored by YouTube, in an attempt to counter the phenomenon of artificially increasing their popularity.

In a related post by Philip Pfeiffenberger, an engineer of the company, states that YouTube is “not just a place for videos, it's a place for meaningful human interaction. Whether it's views, likes, or comments, these interactions represent and inform creators' connection with their audience. That's why we take the accuracy of these interactions seriously."

The post talks about an effort "of the game" through the artificial inflation of views, which undermines the most important and the best of YouTube.

"We've started to periodically review the views that a video receives. While we previously controlled views for spam right after the moment they were marked, starting today, we will periodically validate the view count of a video by flipping out when new items appear. We do not believe that this approach will affect over a small percentage of videos on YouTube but we hope it will be important to improve the accuracy of view counts and maintain the trust of our fans and creators. "

In closing, the publication recommends that video creators be very careful about their collaborations with "third" marketing companies, as some of them will try to sell false views.

YouTube, the largest video sharing site in the world, has grown into an attractive destination for advertisers, with the result that the increase in views is an important "sign" for advertisers to sell. This move is aimed at assuring companies in the space that the campaigns they finance on the web they "reach" a real and not a "virtual" audience. It is noted that in the past YouTube had issued warnings to "channel" owners against the phenomenon, stating that on the one hand artificial views from "third parties" will not be counted and on the other hand may result in measures against accounts.

It is estimated that YouTube visitors watch more than six billion hours of video each month. "Selling Views" has evolved into an active "industry," with many companies openly advertising their services.
