From now on, the YouTube Music app will be pre-installed on Android 9 devices and Android 10.
It looks like Google is putting another nail in the coffin of Google Music Play as it stops having it preinstalled on Android devices and puts YouTube Music in its place.
In May at 2018, Google had announced YouTube Music. Back then, this particular app came with two “flavors”: the free version that contains ads and the paid version called YouTube Music Premium. The free version lives and reigns and it looks like the developer is pushing it further.
So this app is going to replace the Google Music Play app. Google announced the transition in an article on the official YouTube blog.
Google Music Play and YouTube Music are currently pre-installed you can install it manually from the Play Store. But soon the opposite will happen.
If you've visited YouTube recently, you've seen ads for YouTube Music. Google is heavily promoting YouTube Music, so expect it change very soon. We're not sure what's stopping Google from completely removing Google Music Play since it doesn't have much traffic. However, this decision of the company leads in that direction.
