An incredible internet story has come to light. A YouTuber from of the US has pleaded guilty to intentionally crashing a plane in California's Los Padres National Forest in order to generate views on the internet and make money from the views on YpuTube.

He was sentenced to six months in federal prison, according to a release yesterday from the US Attorney's Office.

30-year-old Loboc resident Trevor Daniel Jacob started his solo flight from Loboc City Airport to Mammoth Lakes on November 24, 2021.

Except Jacob never planned on reaching Mammoth. Instead, he intended to exit his aircraft mid-flight and record himself parachuting to the ground as his plane spiraled out of control and crashed.

After flying for about 35 minutes, he got out of his plane and used his parachute over the Los Padres National Forest near Santa Maria. In his video he claims that the plane's engine had shut down. He then filmed himself parachuting to the ground.

The plane crash was captured by the various cameras, both on the plane and on Jacob's body. Once he parachuted safely to the ground, he hiked to the crash site and retrieved the video of the flight and crash from his cameras.

Jacob is an experienced pilot, skydiver and former Olympian. He competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics as a snowboarder while a resident of Paso Robles.

Of course, from the authorities' side, the matter did not remain on paper, since for every airline an extensive investigation is being conducted to avoid a similar situation in the future.

Two days later, on November 26, 2021, when Jacob notified National Transportation Board about the crash, the agency launched an investigation and told Jacob he was responsible for preserving the wreckage so the agency could examine it.

He agreed to determine the location of the crash and provide coordinates and video of the crash to agency investigators.

The Federal Aviation Administration launched its own investigation three days later.

Σύμφωνα με το κατηγορητήριο που τελικά συνέταξε η Ομοσπονδιακή Υπηρεσία Αεροπορίας (Federal Aviation Administration - FAA):

Jacob lied to investigators that he did not know the exact location of the wreckage.

On December 10, 2021, Jacob and a friend flew into the wreckage by helicopter to retrieve it and transported it to Rancho Sisquoc in Santa Barbara County, where he loaded it into his truck.

He then drove the wreckage to an airplane hangar at the Lompoc City Airport, where he cut up and destroyed the aircraft. He unloaded the detached parts of the plane into garbage cans at the airport and elsewhere, which was done to prevent federal authorities from investigating the Nov. 24 plane crash.

The YouTuber installed several video cameras in different parts of the plane and equipped himself with a parachute, a video camera and a selfie stick, before takeoff on November 24, 2021.

Jacob intended to make money through the video, after receiving a sponsorship from a company and agreeing to promote it in the YouTube video he would upload.

He lied to federal investigators when he filed a report that falsely indicated his plane lost full power about 35 minutes into the flight.

He also lied to a FAA aviation safety inspector when he said he had parachuted from the plane when the plane's engine had shut down because he could not identify any safe landing options.

Jacobs pleaded guilty to felony counts of destruction and concealment with intent to obstruct a federal investigation on June 30 and is now in prison. The FFA revoked the pilot's license.

Our question is how much money did Jacob make from YouTube advertising to destroy a plane? Did he depreciate the cost of the plane? Or was it insured and took out from there too?
