Google has released the new Chrome 68 browser for all supported platforms, Windows, Linux and macOS. The new version is an important one information, as it changes the way users are notified about the security of websites they use protocol HTTP.
From this edition, Google Chrome will report all web pages still using HTTP as Not Secure. The notification will appear in the address bar.
Prior to this release, Google Chrome showed that pages were not secure only when they were using HTTP and were asking the user to provide sensitive information such as passwords or credit card details, for example.
This change is only part of a wider Google plan to make the web safer. The next great version of Chrome browser (69 version), as we reported on previous publication will remove the HTTPS marker, which means that when you open a page with the safe HTTPS protocol, you will not see the green padlock.
