The WHO intends to release a contact tracing app for the Covid-19 which will be offered to those countries that cannot create their own.
WHO's Bernardo Mariano told interview with Reuters, that they plan to launch a Covid-19 symptom assessment app in May. Anyone government could release a customized version of the app, but the full version will help those countries that don't have any related app.
The organization is also considering adding contact tracking and has talked to Apple and Google about use of monitoring technology. Legal and privacy issues have prevented the WHO from moving forward until now software this. Apple and Google have promised to offer a decentralized system that will keep the data anonymous, but there are still concerns that the companies could misuse the data to make a profit later.
Of course even a simple, basic application that would analyze the symptoms could prove vital. A globally available WHO app could better inform those who do not know what to expect from the coronavirus and encourage more people to take precautions.
Detecting contacts can also be vital to society after a lockdown, as it could more closely monitor the spread of the virus and help curb it.
