Its purpose and philosophy archive.org is the storage and preservation of all information published in cyberspace ( Internet Archive ), contributing to the information and education of its visitors.
Archive.org was founded in 1996 and its place of origin is Presidio, in San Francisco, United States of America. The site works with Alexa.com, which often draws many of the topics that one can find on its pages.
According to the site's officials, archive.org would like to become a modern "Alexandria library", which had at least one copy of any book that circulated in the ancient world.
The collection of material for the site is done in two ways. The first is to use some applications known as Web Robots or Web Crawlers.
The second way of collecting the material is through donations from the owners of the offered sites. In this case, we should fill in a special form with some of our personal information, while we should know that the site is placed in "archive” after the end of six months from the day of the donation.
In addition to Way back machine, a database of stored web pages from around the world in various forms of the past, has a wealth of other services. One of these is the huge base of royalty-free movies (what we call the public domain), which everyone can get by just downloading them. We do not, of course, refer to commercial productions or known films, but to some films and films of mainly scientific interest (NASA has many well-known videos here). The videos are sorted alphabetically and are compressed using the MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 algorithms.
