archive.org was founded in 1996 and its place of origin is the Presidio, San Francisco, United States of America. The site works with Alexa.com, from which it often draws many of its what one can find on its pages.

According to the site's officials, archive.org would like to become a modern "Alexandria library", which had at least one copy of any book that circulated in the ancient world.

Η of material for the site is made with ways. The first is the use of certain applications also known as Web Robots or Web Crawlers.

The second way of collecting the material is by donations from the owners of the offered sites. In this case, we need to fill in a special form with some personal information, and we need to know that the site is placed in the "archive" after six months from the date of the donation.

In addition to the Way back machine, a database of saved websites from around the world in various forms of the past, it has a multitude of other services. One of them is the huge database of movies without usage rights (the ones we call public that is), which anyone can obtain by simply downloading them. We are not referring, of course, to commercial productions or well-known films, but to some films and films mainly of scientific interest (NASA here has many well-known videos). Videos are listed alphabetically and compressed using MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 algorithms.
