Reuters - H Biel Crystal Manufactory Ltd., is a Hong-Kong based company that makes displays for Apple Inc. According to a group that defends the rights of Chinese workers (SACOM) the company violates the rights of its employees.
The group's complaint states that company employees work 11 hours shifts, seven days a week, with one day off each month.
Workers are also often injured without giving reasonable compensation and must sign white contracts for this, the report says. At least five employees of the company committed suicide by 2011.
Δεν υπήρξε κάποιο άμεσο σχόλιο από την Biel Crystal, αλλά η Kitty Potter, εκπρόσωπος της Apple στην ευρύτερη region of China, said the American company is "looking into such cases."
“Επιμένουμε στο να παρέχουν οι suppliers μας ασφαλείς συνθήκες work, treat employees with dignity and respect and use environmentally responsible processes constructions, for Apple products," Apple said in a statement to Reuters in response to the SACOM report.
Biel Crystal employs more than 60.000 employees, according to the company's website and has two factories, one in Guangdong and the other in Shenzhen. It was not immediately clear for how long Biel is an Apple supplier.
