Apple Inc. acquired the Israeli company LinX Computational Imaging Ltd. Apple has confirmed the acquisition of the Israeli company with its usual standard statement when it buys a company.
“Apple buys smaller Companies technology from time to time but generally we don't discuss our purpose or plans," an Apple spokesperson said according to the WSJ.
Companies have agreed on the amount of 20 million dollars, according to people who know the issue well.
H Linx develops and markets miniature cameras for tablets and smartphones. Using a series of sensors that record multiple images simultaneously and algorithms, LINX reports that its cameras can measure depth and create 3D images.
Last year, the company announced tiny modules for its camera that allow better photo quality in low-light conditions and faster exposure under normal indoor conditions. The company also says that the technology offers quality pictureof single-lens reflex (SLR) without the need for a bulky device.
Their technology, according to company press releases, could pave the way for features such as automatic background removal, 3-D object modeling and face recognition.
