A publication of the telephone companyAT&T describes in detail a project called Flying COW or in Greek Flying Cow. Yes, you read that right.
The cow or COW, comes out of the initials of the words Cell on Wings, which is an initiative by the company to distribute LTE with drones in high traffic areas such as concerts, festivals, or in a place after a natural disaster as a means extraordinary emergency.
"A flying cow (Flying COW) will be able to provide coverage, even when a vehicle is unable to reach a designated area," the company's blog post said.
AT&T says it is currently investigating how it can use drones to Mission of large amounts of real-time data and is preparing to test the project nationally this week. Unlike traditional signal boosters, AT&T believes drones can be deployed more quickly and deliver enhanced service exactly where it's needed.
This is not the first time the company has used drones. In the past it has used drones to inspect cell towers and quickly relay the data to the maintenance team to speed up procedure.
