Let's talk about some well-known brand names. The name of a thing gives some characteristics. But there are certainly features that are impossible to perform. In the world of brands and large businesses, the names of a company should be condensed with something personal but also trustworthy. Or, at least, offer some relative value in relation to other options. Why is Nike (originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports) called Nike? From the name of the goddess who personified the victory. Sounds much better than Blue Ribbon Sports, is not it?
So let's take a look at brand names in some of the biggest technology brands. Really how they got their names.
Samsung
This is a fairly straightforward one. The word Samsung in Korean means "three stars" and was chosen to represent the adjectives is "great, numerous and strong."
Samsung's first products included dried fish, vegetables, pasta and fruit, although apparently later it tried to diversify its activities across a wide range of different industries. Today, it is best known for smartphones and other consumer electronic products. Over time, Samsung has entered aerospace, insurance and financial industries, among others.
Between 1938 and 1993, each Samsung logo featured three stars in different styles. From 1993, Samsung uses the current logo.
Nokia
Nokia is well known in the electronics market. In 1865, a wood pulping mill was opened at Tammerkoski Rapids in Finland. In 1868, in search of stronger water flow, the company opened another mill a few miles from the town of Nokia on the Nokianvirta River, from which the company took its name in 1871. Clearly, there was no rush to establish the brandname in the late 19th century.
Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),
It is one of the largest companies in the world, but it has not always been so.
Ο Steve Jobs when the company had to submit a brand name for official purposes, it thought of something like Matrix Electronics. Still, in Jobs's words: "Partly because I like apples a lot and also because Apple as a name precedes Atari in the phone book."
Clearly, his plan worked well - Apple is now a global superpower, while Atari has lost the game for quite some time. The name Atari comes from Japan meaning I hit the target.
LG
Like many other companies, LG Electronics did not start operating under its current name. In 1958, GoldStar was founded in the aftermath of the Korean War, with the mission of building electronic devices.
GoldStar's sister company was Lak-Hui (pronounced "Lucky"), hence the name "Lucky Goldstar."
HTC
Most people think that the HTC name comes from the original High-Tech Computer, but that's not the case.
1997, when the company was founded by Http. Cho (current chairman) and Cher Wang (current chairman). So they decided to use their initials to form a name - and hence the HTC name was born.
Cher Wang the "C" of HTC
Spotify
Spotify, originally started in Sweden, although the word Spotify does not seem to mean anything in Swedish.
The founders of Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon sat one day trying to think of a name, and when one of the suggestions heard was "Spotify" they liked it. When the twin realized that there were no Google results for the word and that the domains were available, they simply grabbed the opportunity.
Sony
The roots of Sony are a mixture of Latin and English slang. More specifically, this is a version of "Sonus," which sounds like "Sonny," and means a good young man.
However, this was not the original name. Founded in 1946 under the name Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo KK, or simply Totsuko. The brand change came in the 1950 decade when the company started to have globalization ambitions, and the TTK trademark belonged to another company. With the combination of Sonus and Sonny, Sony came.
Amazon
Amazon was close to being called Cadabra, from "abracatabra" because Bezos wanted a bookstore to be so fast that it would look like magic.
Indeed, in 1994, Jeff Bezos started the website with the "magic" name but in 1995 he changed it to Amazon. It took its name from the Amazon. Clearly, Jeff Bezos had big ambitions from the beginning.
It's known now. Google got its name from a spelling error on Googol, the word representing 10 ^ 100, or 1 followed by 100 zeros. Why is this name? Just because the founders of Sergey Brin and Larry Page wanted to emphasize how much data they had in their hands for mood.
Microsoft
Microsoft took its name from a blink of Bill Gates and Paul Allen.
The company was officially founded in April 1975, and its name derives from the combination of "microprocessor" and "software" {microprocessor - software).
1977, the company opened its first international office in Japan under the name ASCII Microsoft. The company later incorporated its name with its Washington office and became Microsoft Inc.
Everyone probably knows how Facebook got its name. It is simply the name of the list of students in some colleges on USA. In the beginning the name was thefacebook.com and since 2005 there has been Facebook.com which we have until today.
Mozilla
That's how Mozilla was born. Dave Titus designed the original Mozilla mascot in 1994.
Wikipedia
Η WikiWikiWeb Ward Cunningham was one of the first user-editable websites. The project sparked interest in Nupedia who thought about allowing people to edit and contribute to content.
Asus
Asustek, better known as Asus, was founded by four former Acer employees at 2009. The company claims that their name derives from the winged horse of Greek mythology Pegasus. (e?)
Why
According to their own explanation, the company was so named because it "embodies the power, purity, and adventurous spirit of this imaginary creature, and reaches new heights with every new product it creates."
Lenovo
The founders of Lenovo 1984 agreed that the company should be named Chinese Academy of Sciences New Technology Development Company, according to Lenovo Affair by Zhijun Ling.
Eventually, the team named it Legend, a name that lasted for almost two decades, until 2003. It has since been called Lenovo.
The name comes from the Latin Le and Novo and means new.
Skype or Whatsapp
2003, Skype was another company that didn't find the name the brand wanted to really use.
Skype is a simple combination of Sky with the term peer-to-peer, which originally became Skyper, and then, if the name was not available, became Skype. At least, according to a former Skype employee Andreas Sjölund.
