Combo Breaker: A hacker in California έχει εφεύρει μία machine who printed it (with a 3D-printer), which can "crack" the code of a rotary combination lock in about 30 seconds.
The hacker made the printing plans freely available to the public, along with open source software code that allows breaking combinations.
A few weeks ago, Samy Kamkar revealed a manufacturing flaw in Master Lock combinations that revealed the combination by measuring how the selector and the connector interact. It's a difficult process but with a software, it's getting too easy.
The machine Combo Breaker uses a stepper motor to rotate the master lock combination wheel, an Arduino chip to run the software, and an 3D-printed box that embraces the lock to ensure a consistent application of the dial controller.
The Combo Breaker takes about five minutes to find the combination, which is disturbing but at the same time very useful if the lock is yours and you have forgotten the combination.
Before panic, Kamkar tested the device in a cheap version of Lock Lock. The company says, however, that it has made the rotating combination locks more durable and so the Combo Breaker may not have guaranteed results.
