The Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime, as part of its preventive action to avoid defrauding citizens, informs the users of mobile phones and other devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.) about a pop-up window, which appears when they navigate the Internet and informs that the device is infected with malware.
In particular, the popup window says "from an audit performed by a program antivirus , it was found that during the last 7 days, the device is infected with viruses and spyware» and urges the user to download a related protection application via hyperlink to get rid of the malicious software.
Through this hyperlink, the user οδηγείται σε ιστοσελίδα which invites him to register his telephone connection number in order to make a six-month subscription to multimedia information services, with a monthly fee of twenty-four euros and sixty minutes (€ 24,60) by receiving five-digit (54XXX) text messages in order to protect your device from malware malware.
Note that in order to delete the user from the above high-priced services, he / she must send a text message with the word "STOP" to a specific five-digit number that is mandatory on the company's website.
From the Electronic Crime Prosecutor's Office, an investigation of this kind of online fraud is carried out on its own and the preliminary investigation material collected will be submitted to the relevant Prosecutor's Office.
In view of the foregoing, the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate advises the public not to enter its personal telephone number on websites unless it has previously read the terms and the cost of providing services.
