German websites governments, including Chancellor Merkel's page, were "hacked" on Wednesday in a cyberattack claimed by an organization demanding the severance of official relations with Berlinwith the Ukrainian government.
The attack - against which countermeasures were taken, as reported by Reuters - made sites practically inaccessible from 11 in the morning (Greek time), as it became known.
The team took responsibility CyberBerkut by posting on its website. "Berkut" refers to the riot police units of the country's pro-Russian former president, Viktor Yanukovych, who fell during duration violent uprisings in early 2014.
"CyberBerkut blocked them websites of the German chancellor and the Bundestag. We urge the people and government of Germany to stop financial and political support to the criminal regime in Kiev, which has started a bloody civil war," it says. However, it has not yet been confirmed by independent experts whether CyberVerkut is indeed responsible for the attack.
