The attack - against which countermeasures were taken, as reported by - made the sites practically inaccessible from 11 am (Greece time), as it became known.

The team took responsibility with a post on her website. "Berkut" refers to the riot police units of former pro-Russian pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych, who fell during violent revolts at the beginning of 2014.

"CyberVerkut blocked the websites of the German chancellor and the Bundestag. We urge the people and its government to stop financial and political support to the criminal regime in Kiev, which started a bloody civil war" it says. However, it has not yet been confirmed by independent experts whether CyberVerkut is indeed responsible for the attack.
