Ellen Lord, Reported According to Bloomberg, the so-called "Do-Not-Buy" list includes software and hardware from Russia and China because some of the companies "do not operate in accordance with our defense standards."
Lord said the Department of Defense, and its department in particular, worked closely with the IT community to identify software and hardware sources - many of which were protected through holding companies.
Once a company enters the Do-Not-Buy list, the government ensures that no products are purchased from these companies. The names of the companies have not been revealed yet, although some of them are already known.
But the Do-Not-Buy list has provoked tensions between Russia, China and the West for both imports and exports of technology products, as Congress and the White House imposed sanctions on ZTE and Huawei, which have long accused of facilitating espionage in Beijing.
Earlier this year, the government began the process of removing Kaspersky Security Software from its systems as it considers the product to ship data in Russia.
Similarly, China imposed restrictions last year on US networking devices because of worries that could be harnessed by US intelligence.
