DuckDuckGo protection extension for Google FLoC

DuckDuckGo has updated the DuckDuckGo extension for to block the new Google FLoC (Federated Learning of Cohorts) tracking method.

The DuckDuckGo add-on comes after Google launched the FLoC test, which chose Chrome users without the option to opt out unless they disable third-party cookies, which would be a problem on some sites.

The new FLoC blocking feature is included in version 2021.4.8 of the DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials extension. The company said the expansion is still awaiting Google's approval, but will be available soon. If you have already installed the DuckDuckGo extension, it will be updated automatically, otherwise you can install it from the Chrome Web Store.

Upcoming FLoC technology monitors behavior by default without user consent. If Google insists on using FLoC technology, it should do so without asking users' permission (without dark patterns). The DuckDuckGo extension has a single purpose: to provide holistic privacy protection to Chrome.
