Why DupeKill: If your hard drive storage space is limited, there are a few things you can do. You can run it tool "Disk clean up” of Windows, delete the program data touror use any other third-party programs.
DupeKill is one free software that can scan your computer and discover all duplicate files on your disk.
When you run the application for the first time, it will ask you where you want to save the settings. The options it gives are to save them in the folder where you exported the application (yes it is portable, ie it does not need installation) or in the folder that contains the user profile.
The DupeKill UI is quite easy and simple. At the top you will see a "Look In". Click the 3 boxes next to it to search for a folder or drive for duplicate files. Select the "Include subfolders" option, if needed, and press the "Scan" button to perform the first scan.
The program will scan the selected folder and check the files it finds for duplicates. The scan status is displayed in a small window below the "Look In" bar. The DupeKill application checks the file names and if it finds files with the same name it considers them duplicates. For example, it views the "Copy of screenshot" and "document1.txt" files as duplicates, while it views the "Screenshot" and "Document.txt" files as the original files.
When the scan is complete, the Results appear in the large area in the center of the screen. You can check them file properties, such as size, name and path, creation date, modification date, for each duplicate file discovered by the application.
If you right-click on a result, you'll see a list of options that allow you to run the file, open the folder containing it, copy the path, or all information. You will also see the options Keep, Delete, Link, Move.
The total number of files to be deleted and their size are listed on the results window. Make sure you have selected the files correctly and click the button to delete the duplicate files.
The application is very fast, and quite accurate.
Warning: There is always the possibility that a file will be incorrectly marked as a duplicate. Take your time to check the results before moving on deletion.
