Detected by the Electronic Crime Prosecutor's Office a major case of infringement of intellectual property law

In this way, a significant loss of revenue was caused both for legal beneficiaries, approximately 1.400.000 euro, and for the State, due to the non-collection of the respective taxes 
From the Greek Police's Electronic Crime Prosecution Division, in the context of operational actions to combat tax evasion, a case of infringement of intellectual property and tax evasion law has been identified.
For the case, a 12-year-old citizen was arrested yesterday (03-2015-37) in Athens, against whom a relevant case file was filed for violation of the legislation on intellectual property, continuously, via the internet.
Digital complaints against a specific website (dvdmovies.gr) preceded it, making it accessible to the public via the internet and possessing, without respecting the legal requirements (purchase - sale - VAT - taxation - copyright), audiovisual works of all kinds.
In particular, according to the complaint, the perpetrator illegally collected web links (urls) corresponding to audio-visual works (movies and series) and provided them, without the required permission of the legal beneficiaries, to the users of the website in question, urging them to this illegal activity.
In this way, according to the Audiovisual Protection Company, there was a significant loss of revenue for legitimate beneficiaries, about 1.400.000, and for the State not to collect the corresponding taxes.
In addition, according to the complaints, this website (dvdmovies.gr) had high traffic and based on statistics, it held 2η position across the web among similar content sites, containing more than 66.000 links and numbering about 400.000-500.000 users.
The Athens District Attorney's Office was informed of the above and a preliminary examination was ordered. Extensive, thorough and in-depth online research and analysis of the digitals followed data and details of the case from the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate. In this context and after correspondence with the competent authorities and the involved telecommunications and internet companies, the above 37-year-old arrested person emerged as the administrator of the aforementioned website.
Police officer of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (12-03-2015) conducted a regular survey yesterday in his home, where he was identified by the site's administrator.
During the search, four (4) internal electronic hard drives were found and seized computer, which will be sent to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for laboratory tests.
In addition, a statement of money has been found and seized, which generates advertising revenue on that site, estimated at several thousand euros a month, without complying with the statutory conditions for declaring these revenues to the tax office.
The aforementioned offender, with his filed case file, will be brought before the Attorney General of Athens.
At the same time, the Financial Police Directorate and the Criminal Investigative Body will be informed to investigate the legality of these proceeds and to impose administrative penalties for tax offenses in accordance with the applicable provisions.
