Say goodbye to Flash with Firefox 84: All major browser developers plan to remove Flash support from their browsers by 2020.
Adobe announced the removal of Adobe Flash in 2017. Subsequently several companies such as Google, Microsoft and Mozilla in turn announced that they planned to end support for the technology in their browsers.
Finally… We are talking about the most vulnerable application ever released….
Adobe Flash will no longer download updates security from 2021 onwards.
Firefox uses an addon to integrate Adobe Flash, which is installed on the system, and the program browsing. Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers use built-in support for Flash.
Currently Flash in Firefox is disabled by defaultchoice, but those who want can activate it, if required by some websites. Flash is the only NPAPI plugin that Firefox still supports. Support for other NPAPI-based plug-ins, such as Microsoft Silverlight, has been dropped since Firefox 52, which was released in March 2017.
Mozilla today revealed it version of Firefox and the month it completely removes Flash from Firefox. According to the schedule, Flash will be removed in Firefox 84 Stable, a release that will be released in December 2020. Flash support will be removed earlier than dev versions. From Firefox Nightly for example, it will be removed in October 2020.
Of course there is always the possibility that these plans will change, due to unbalanced factors. It seems a bit unlikely though, as Adobe will not release any other security updates for Flash in 2021.
Google plans to stop supporting Flash from Chromium in January 2021 with the release of Chrome 88. The change will affect all other Chromium-based web browsers.
