After weeks of waiting, pirates can celebrate as the first pirated copies of the awards screeners have surfaced. After leakage of the first Arrivals, Hidden Figures, Patriots Day, Moonlight and La La Land more movies are expected. At the end of each year, the screeners are sent to entertainment industry insiders to vote for the Oscars or other awards.
Usually, several of these movies start appearing on various pirate websites around Christmas, but this year no movement was observed.
In early January, however, the first pirate screener was released, with a copy of Denzel Washington's Fences.
It seems that some of the well-known groups that leak movies are getting a little more careful with their release strategies. The famous one team Hive-CM8, which released the most screeners last year, has announced that it will no longer release any movies before their theatrical release.
But this week the screeners started to appear and the first five DVDs are already online.
The first to appear was Hidden Figures and Patriots Day. La La Land, Moonlight and Arrival films ended last week.
