Until 2015, few knew that Argentinian programmer Federico Abad was actually "Sebastian," the notorious Popcorn Time content sharing platform.
He is now a member of the team behind Flixxo, a BitTorrent and blockchain platform that began hoping to claim a share of the YouTube video market.
The Flixxo network will not have the established centralized data storage, eliminating the need for expensive server hosting and associated costs. Instead, they will take place transportation – peer-to-peer using the BitTorrent protocol, meaning video content will be stored on Flixxo users' computers.
In practice, content will be uploaded and downloaded in the same way that users do on The Pirate bay or in Abad's app, Popcorn Time.
However, there is a change to this system that will allow content creators and network participants (seeders) to earn income from their involvement in the system.
At the heart of the Flixxo system will be digital chips (think of it as a virtual currency) called Flixx. These Flixx coins can be used by users to obtain access in the content. Content creators may also choose to pay consumers when these individuals help distribute content to others.
"Without structural costs, producers can share the profits from their content with the network that supports them," the team behind Flixxo told Torrentfreak.
In addition to the earnings from the content distribution help, those involved in the Flixxo system will also be able to gain by watching the advertised content, i.e. Ads. While in a traditional system the ads are often considered annoying, the Flixx coins are likely to make them very popular because the audience will be paid to watch them !!!!
The Flixxo team has great designs. After its foundation at the beginning of 2016, the second quarter of 2017 completed a functional Alpha version. Less than two weeks later, the project will launch an event for its release, while preparing offices in Los Angeles to be completed in the first half of 2018.
