Μετά την πρόσφατη ανάκληση της Samsung σε 2,5 εκατομμύρια συσκευές Galaxy Note 7, the company announced that it will release a software update that will limit the battery capacity to 60 percent, so as to prevent overheating and explosions.
The Associated Press says Samsung with advertisements it has published in South Korean newspapers, says the update will be released on September 20.
It looks like the change will affect only the Galaxy Note 7 devices sold in South Korea, as a Samsung representative told the BBC that the whole issue of the battery will be solved by replacing the devices that will be shipped to the company's customers in Europe.
Of course there are many who are not at all happy with Samsung's design. What is the reason for someone to buy one high-end device when the battery capacity is limited by the operating system to 60%?
Samsung, on the other hand, believes that the software update will help prevent overheating. Of course no one can say for sure that this is true and that the explosions will stop, because even the company knew its device would blow up.
Ultimately, the defective batteries should serve as a reminder to gadget makers that the control of quality is paramount.
