Samba is a pretty useful networking protocol, but all of them its previous versions were extremely vulnerable to certain attacks.
Remember it WannaCry, and NotPetya; And two used flaws in SMBv1 to spread and infect computers.
Anyway, Google just released a SAMBA client for the Android which only supports SMBv1 shares.
Literally, only SMBv1 shares. Corbin Davenport from Android Police reviewed it application with a Samba share on a device that uses the more modern and more secure SMBv2 protocol. He found that the new Google client couldn't even connect.
Given Google's considerable resources and expertise along with all the latest publications for the insecure SMBv1, the above fact of the release of such a Samba Client by the company leaves us speechless.
Why have they released something so problematic in terms of security?
