According to a Guardian publication, Google is testing solar drones at Spaceport America, One installation in New Mexico that in the past friendforeignon Virgin Galactic.
The project, codenamed "SkyBender", aims to test prototype transceivers and drones that use millimeter wave radio transmissions.
Mln transmissions use the frequency of 28 GHz and although smaller than current 4G technologies, speeds are incredibly fast.
Theoretically, milimeter wave technology can carry multiple gigabit data per second, up to 40 times faster than current 4G LTE systems.
To deliver millimeter wave technology, Google is testing high-flying drones (unmanned aerial vehicles that fly at high altitudes); This is a challenge, and Google is reportedly testing different technologies, such as high-tech antennas.
At present, it is very much a theoretical project.
The SkyBender project is part of a small teamof Google Access which has also been undertaken by Project Loon, another experiment to provide high-speed internet.
Google is licensed by the FCC to continue these trials until July.
