Google announced the end of the Google+ Photos service on August 1st. Termination of service was expected after presentation of the standalone Google Photos application that allows to users iOS and Android, to save all their photos and videos, regardless of their resolution.
So Google announced that starting from August 1st it will start to stop the photo service on its social network Google+, first for Android devices, and soon after on the Web and iOS platforms.
Those who are still using Google + Photos would be good to change service and use the new Google Photos app that's been available in May for Android and iOS users.
You should also be aware that all your photos and videos will still be available and will be available after the service ends in the new standalone Google Photos application.
So you do not have to backup.
