Η Google detects your email only for child abuse content and no other criminal activity. The company's statement came after dcrackdown that arose when the police arrested a Gmail user trafficking material for child abuse.
It's not the first time the company does that. According to a Google announcement posted by Business Insider, the company actively strives to remove any illegal photos from its services, as well as from the results search. The company said Gmail immediately reports any abuse to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Evidence is routinely used to convict criminals.
"Each child sexual abuse image gives a unique digital fingerprint that allows our systems to identify it," says thefaceof Google.
It should be noted that Google and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children have been working together for years, creating a joint database that contains pictures child abuse. Each of them has a unique "hash," as it's known in the tech world, which is essentially a fingerprint. The company's system scans actually look for these fingerprints. Google is legally required to report any such discoveries within its systems.
