Ruben Santa Marta, a researcher security from IOActive, discovered a way to trick a specific counterfeit banknote machine. "Teasing" it firmware of the specific counterfeit detection machine (widely used in Spain) has managed to recognize just cards as banknotes.
The device on which the expert carried out his investigation is from Secureuro.
According to the manufacturer, the counterfeit detector can not be deceived. However, the expert has proved that this is not the case.
First of all, the researcher discovered that Secureuro provides access to its firmware without even hacking. In addition, the firmware is not protected by any encryption system.
Additional technical details of the attack can be found on her blog IOActive.
