Η Harley-Davidson will present its first electric motorcycle next weekteam, and President Matt Levatich said he expects the company known for its grand touring motorcycles to become a leader in the development of technology and standards in electric vehicles.
Harley will show hand-made models on Monday at an event in New York. Then, the company with several dozen riders will take a tour of 30 cities for test drive of new motorcycles. Harley will use the information she will collect from this tour to improve her products.
This particular project carries several risks for Harley-Davidson as it is quite pioneering. At the moment there is almost no market for electric motorcycles of the size we are used to knowing from the company. The electric two-wheelers sold each year are almost exclusively low-powered scooters aimed at the Chinese market. One analyst said such investments by a major manufacturer could contribute to creation demand and Levatich emphasized in an interview with Associated Press that Harley has one for the long-term vision, regardless of immediate demand.
