It might seem a little strange to some but American television network HBO (Home Box Office), which has produced the TV series Game of Thrones, has patented one system of sensors for a boxing glove showing the speed of the punch in real time.
The technology behind its patent HBO, called PunchForce, shows how fast and powerful a punch moves, while a sensor mounted on the boxing glove and the body of a boxer could tell in real time the power with which a punch strikes the opponent.
It's not the first time similar force-sensing technology has been used in sports. We have seen similar gadgets in baseball and tennis which usually have some sensors for the measurement of the speed at which he could hit a ball.
In accordance with VentureBeat, the patent describes the technology as having a gyroscope and an accelerometer integrated in the front of the boxing glove.
When the glove is used, a database with multiple motion profiles of the previous fists is used to compare the present fist with the past so that the athlete can monitor his progress more accurately.
But why was the HBO television network interested in and patented this technology? We think it's pretty obvious to use in live NFL races.
