Hosts file: easily block web pages

Below we will see how you can block web pages on your computer from archive hosts. You may find it very useful especially if you have children.

By editing the hosts file, you are telling your system to a specific IP address instead of the normal one (the one given by the DNS server) when you type a URL in the browser's address bar.

hosts

So when someone wants to visit facebook.com their IP (at the time of writing) is 31.13.64.35, you can make your browser send the person to the local address 127.0.0.1 which shows nothing.

Edit the hosts file

Κατ 'αρχάς, θα πρέπει να βρείτε το αρχείο. Ακολουθήστε τη διαδρομή:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

When you get to the etc folder, open the hosts file using any word processor you want. We recommend (once again) notepad ++, which is free and very reliable.

You will need to open the file with administrator privileges before you can save the changes.
Έτσι επιλέξτε με ποια εφαρμογή θέλετε να επεξεργαστείτε το κείμενο, κάντε δεξί click στο εικονίδιο και "εκτέλεση σαν διαχειριστής."

When you open the hosts file, you will probably see something like this:

Μπορείτε να προσθέσετε τις καταχωρήσεις που θέλετε κάτω από την τελευταία σειρά, χωρίς να προσθέσετε τον χαρακτήρα "#" στην αρχή. Η σύνταξη θα πρέπει να είναι όπως βλέπετε παρακάτω:

127.0.0.1 facebook.com

Each that you want to block must appear directly below what you wrote first. You can add the www and non-www versions of the site on separate lines. That's it.

Do not attempt to provide a specific URL such as facebook.com/messages/etc. You use hosts to block domains, not pages.

Once you are done with the list of domains you want to block, save the hosts file.

In some cases, you will find that your block works immediately if you try to open the page in your browser, and other times you will need to perform a restart. on your computer.

If you find that the page you want to block still works, try adding it IP address of the site along with the local IP.

The actual IP of a page can be easily found. In Windows Search, type cmd and open the application from the results.

Enter the ping and domain you want to find the IP.

So in the case of Facebook, the hosts file should also contain the following order.

127.0.0.1 31.13.64.35
