The agreement of Nokia - Microsoft, has already been approved by the US Department of Justice, and has taken the "green light" European Commission and the 15 regulators of other countries.
The Nokia and Microsoft announced that the acquisition of the first of the second, against the amount of 7,2 billion dollars, will not be completed at the end of March, as originally announced.
Instead, the Finnish company expects that the acquisition of the division mobile of telephones and related services, will be completed by the end of April. The delay in approval by certain Asian regulatory authorities is said to be the reason for the postponement of the completion date of the acquisition.
A similar move was also made by Microsoft's announcement, which assures the public that the takeover process is ongoing and is expected to be completed by the end of next month.
We remind you that the agreement has already been approved by the US Department of Justice, while it has also received the "green light" from the European Commission and the regulatory authorities of 15 other countries. However, because the two companies have production units and subsidiaries in several Asian countries, approval from the regulatory authorities there is deemed necessary. However, the number of approvals expected was not disclosed.
Microsoft's acquisition of Nokia's devices and services division was announced last September. An important role in the process was played by the then head of Nokia, Stephen Elop, who was also a former Microsoft executive. In fact, after Ballmer resigned from Microsoft, Elop was considered as the most likely candidate to replace him, but in the end, Satya Nadella was appointed CEO of Microsoft.
Eventually, Stephen Elop took over Microsoft's Devices and Studios division, which is the division that Nokia will join after the acquisition is completed. He will, in practice, have the same responsibilities that he had when he was at the helm of the Finnish company. The main difference is that he will now be responsible for other things as well productMicrosoft's, such as Surface tablets and Xbox consoles.
With the takeover, Microsoft hopes to give new impetus to smartphones as it can offer its own devices in conjunction with the Windows Phone operating system.
