According research Kaspersky Lab and B2B International, although more than half of Europe's parents (52%) believe that the threats their children face on the Internet are constantly increasing (from cyberbullying to inappropriate content), just over a third (36%) talk to children about these potential threats and advise them.
The survey found that one in five European parents (21%) do nothing to protect their children from online dangers, even though 28% have seen their children face real threats online, including monitoringof inappropriate content, random chats with dangerous strangers and cyberbullying. Also, 47% fear that the Internet affects the health and psychology of children in some way.
At the same time, while about a third of European parents (30%) feel they have no control over what children see or do when they are online, almost two-thirds (62%) do not bother to talk to children for Internet threats. Even if they take action, they focus on actions that can be largely ineffective. For example, 24% states that it controls the history of its children's browsing, although most of the damage may have already occurred at this stage. Only a quarter (26%) has installed parental control software.
