KB5000842 problems in gaming and sound

Some time ago the Microsoft released KB5000842 (OS Builds 19041.906 and 19042.906) as an update preview for Windows 10, versions 20H2 and 2004. The seems to be problematic for too many users.

Initially KB5000842 affected gaming performance. This was mostly reported by users who run full screen games and use two or more screens. This was quickly resolved with the Rollback feature that fixes problems with Windows updates before they reach millions of computers worldwide.

Now, a new issue has emerged from the same update. Loud sounds may be heard if you use 5.1 audio after installing KB5000842.

This only affects those using 5.1 Dolby with some settings. The issue does not occur when using stereo sound. THE who is reportedly currently trying to resolve the issue, suggests the following solution.

Stream video or audio to someone or in another different application, instead of the application affected by this issue.

Change the spatial sound settings by right-clicking or holding down the volume icon in the notification area by selecting spatial sound and selecting any of the other available options.

The problem refers to the known issues of Windows 10, of the 20H2 edition, of , and version 20H2, as you can see here.

Fortunately, KB5000842 is still an optional update, so most Windows 10 users will not be affected.

Only those who have installed the update manually and have the specific settings have a problem.

Prior to the release of the "fixed" builds update, Microsoft had plenty of time to resolve these issues without affecting the stability and reliability of the operating system.
