Linux Mint 18 is here and ISOs are available for download in two flavors: Cinnamon and MATE. At the moment there is no official announcement on the webσελίδα of Linux Mint.
The Linux Mint 18 Sarah release notes are unchanged from the Beta version announced three weeks ago, but both the Cinnamon and MATE builds are based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus which comes with Linux Kernel 4.4 LTS.
Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon is developed with the latest Cinnamon 3.0 UI, and adds major improvements to the Update Manager (Update Manager), both visually and in code. It comes with a new look based on the popular Arc GTK theme and has Moka icons. The theme is called Mint-Y, but it is not enabled by default.
There are also many other improvements in the Linux Mint 18 code, such as HiDPI support, X-Apps, introducing new applications designed for Linux Mint (Xed, Xviewer, Xreader, Xplayer, and Pix, the MDM 2.0 connection manager, support for GTK3 for most of the included apps, and procase of the Gufw Firewall GUI.
On the other hand, Linux Mint 18 MATE uses the MATE 1.14 GUI, and comes with more or less the same improvements in system and updated components like Cinnamon. Linux Mint 18 will be supported with security updates until 2021.
