The next big one version of distribution Linux Mint will officially be called Ulyana, according to the development team. But the biggest change will be the exclusive development of only the 64-bit architecture, since from this version onwards, Linux Mint stops supporting the 32-bit.
The new Linux Mint 20 it will be based on Ubuntu 20.04, and the development team announced that it will be released in three different versions, Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce.
There is also significant news for those running the LMDE version as it officially reaches support end in July 2020, which means that after this date, devices that have not been upgraded in the 4 version will no longer receive updates. Of course, these systems will continue to run normally, but the lack of security updates and bug fixes will make them more prone to security issues.
"LMDE 3 will reach EOL (End-of-Life) on July 1, 2020. The repositories will continue to operate, but the release will no longer receive bug fixes and security updates from Linux Mint," the development team said.
The team also unveiled some of the changes that will come to the new Linux Mint: Improvements to the XappStatusIcon applets. With the new version, support for StatusNotifier, libAppIndicator and libAyatana will be added thanks to changes made to Electron.
