Today, Linux Mint developers released a new edition of the Debian-based LMDE operating system. The code name of the distribution is 'Cindy' and anyone interested can find the download link at the end of the post. 
LMDE in version 3 aims to be as close as possible to Linux Mint, but without using Ubuntu like base.
LMDE 3 is based on Debian Stretch and the official announcement states:
LMDE is a Linux Mint project and stands for “Linux Mint Debian Edition". The main goal for the Linux Mint team is to see how sustainable our distribution is and how much work it would take if we ever go away from Ubuntu. LMDE aims to be as similar as possible to Linux Mint, but without using Ubuntu. The package base is provided by Debian.
Let's mention that there will not be released point releases for the LMDE. In addition to bug fixes and security fixes, Debian base packages remain the same, but the components of Mint and Desktop are constantly updated.
The distribution "wears" the Cinnamon desktop environment which is also the desktop environment of Linux Mint.

1GB RAM (recommended 2GB for convenient use).
15GB disk space (20GB recommended).
