Our acquaintance Sabu, ex hacker of LulzSec, and FBI whistleblower was ultimately not convicted. The District Court of USA in Southern New York released him Tuesday after the judge sentenced him to a year of probation.
Sabu or Hector Xavier Monsegur he had been charged with a total of twelve felonies for his role in the attacks on her Sony Pictures, Nintendo's HB Gary, as well as other private companies, news agencies and government agencies during the summer of 2011. If he did not cooperate with the FBI he would have faced up to 26 years in prison.
Judge Loretta Preska, who last year convicted him Jeremy Hammond at ten years in prison for hacking at Stratfor, he said the lenient sentence was the result of Monsegur's "truly special" assistance to authorities since his arrest on June 7, 2011.
